Botswana : Accommodation

Small luxury camps and 5-star lodges are linked by light aircraft, picking up and dropping off guests at the remote camps located either in game parks, or in private concession areas. To experience the diversity of the Okavango Delta choose a combination of camps which will offer you both land and water activities. Some are on islands allowing you to walk and game drive, whilst others are surrounded by water, concentrating on boat or mokoro safaris. You may suppose that accommodation in the more isolated areas of the Kalahari and Magkgadikgadi would be basic, but be assured that your bed, food and service has the same high standard apparent throughout Botswana.

Chobe Chilwero, Chobe
Set in beautiful grounds, the 15 air-conditioned thatched cottages are charming. Afternoon tea is served on the lawn, with views down to the river. This lodge is perfectly located for game drives and river trips on the Chobe River, and the sundowner cruise should not be missed. Visits to nearby Victoria Falls can be arranged.

Savuti Safari Camp, Linyanti
Accommodation is in 7 large walk-in tents, raised on wooden platforms. A waterhole provides great game viewing from the comfort of the dining area and pub. The log-pile hide is an ingenious idea, allowing guests to sit quietly but unobtrusively whilst being at close quarters to game (usually elephant).

King’s Pool Camp, Linyanti
Suites at this 9-bedded luxury camp have four-poster beds, large bathrooms, and a plunge pool on the private deck. The camp is set in a private reserve, with good bird viewing on the Kings Pool Lagoon, as well as a wealth of game. Being outside the National Park, guests have the freedom to walk and enjoy night game drives, in addition to boat cruises on the Linyanti River.

Mombo Camp, Okavango Delta
Mombo is one of the premier camps in the Okavango Delta. Accommodation is a huge, luxurious ‘space’ under canvas. On your deck is an outdoor “sala” where you can doze off in the heat of the day, or you might want to stay awake in case a leopard should pass by!. The camp has a small plunge pool. Game viewing is arguably the best in Botswana.

Jao Camp, Okavango Delta
This uniquely designed lodge, poised high above the indigenous forest canopy, has vast loft style rooms, linked by wooden walkways. Each room has a thatched “sala” with a day bed – the perfect place for a massage. The option of both water and land game viewing is determined by the water levels in the area. Sleep-outs are an unforgettable experience for the intrepid!.

Abu Camp, Okavango Delta
Abu Camp operates exclusive 3-day elephant-back safaris in the heart of the delta. The 6 luxury tented suites are furnished with mahogany beds, comfy armchairs and each tent has its own tree-shaded deck. Your time is spent with the family of elephant, learning their history and experiencing this unique area from the elevated height of the back of an elephant!

Xigera, Moremi
The camp is situated on “Paradise Island” within the Moremi Game Reserve, in an area of permanent water. There are 8 spacious tents overlooking a floodplain and waterhole, often teeming with red lechwe and other game. Birding is excellent, and a wooden bridge connecting the camp to the next island often provides a convenient bridge for wandering lion or leopard! .

Little Vumbura, Okavango Delta
This intimate 6-bedded camp is surrounded by water, close to large rivers, making it an ideal spot for water-based exploration by mokoro, or motor boat. Game drives and walks are also possible from this camp, and night drives provide an all round game experience. Rooms are spacious and there is a plunge pool and reading area overlooking the floodplains.

Jack’s Camp & San Camp, Magadikgadi Pans
Jacks Camp and San Camp, on the edge of the Makgadikgadi Pans, are the only permanent camps in this vast area. Jack’s Camp is the more luxurious, a curious mix of Persian rugs, antique chests and four-poster beds, housed in Bedouin style tents. San Camp is smaller and more rustic, but equally quirky. Quad biking across the pans, game drives and guided walks could be with a PhD zoologist or a Bushman.

Okavango Horse Safaris, Okavango Delta
Okavango Horse Safaris, run by Barney and PJ Bestelink, offers very personalised horse riding safaris in the central region of the Okavango Delta. Riding safaris can be either a 5 day or 10 day itinerary. Accommodation is in a comfortable base camp, or overnight fly camps, depending on the itinerary. Riders should be reasonably experienced as rides will amongst big game.

Mashatu, Tuli Game Reserve
Mashatu Game Reserve situated in the remote Tuli region of Botswana. Rooms at Mashatu Main Camp are air-conditioned and quietly luxurious. The main deck is elevated, around a waterhole, and offers excellent game viewing opportunities. Game drives can be done by vehicle or on foot. Optional horseback riding and Mountain bike trails can be arranged.
